Recently I taught a class on Breath Walking which includes mantras, meditation and mudras, to a group of about 100 people and they loved it. After the introduction, we did a short breath walking meditation with mantras (primordial sounds) and mudras (finger and hand touch points) for about 20 minutes at the beach in Marco Island, Florida. They learned this is an easy, effective and fast way to get into a breathing meditation with a movement that can calm, energize and relax your body and mind all at the same time. With the steady stream of stress, most people are under these days now is a great time to use chanting and meditation to help keep you and your family happy and healthy. Unfortunately, too few people understand the health benefits of chanting So read on to learn more about how chant can help change the world.
Benefits of Chant and Chanting
Many people are looking for ways to feel better, look younger, reduce stress and sleep better. Research has found that chanting and meditation can do all of this and much more. We can all benefit from education and information about baby steps to improve our health and well being. We can depend on synthetic over the counter medicines and prescription drugs with side effects to reduce our anxiety, pains, stress, and troubles as we spend big bucks or we can empower ourselves with holistic health habits with positive side effects. It is up to each of us to be better educated and informed about the benefits of a chanting and meditation practice. The world can throw us a challenge at any moment and it is up to us to find ways to stay happy and healthy.
Chants and chanting have been referenced and written about for thousands of years. The Ayurveda text goes back about 5,000 years and mentions the benefits and power of chanting. Gregorian chant is also well documented and known for the healing and spiritual benefits it offers. Many cultures over time have tapped into the centering and connection provide by chanting. Chanting is a great way to keep your mind from wandering during a meditation and actually enhances the experience. Try it for 21 days and see what happens. Remember to say Ommmmmmm….. and Relax.
Habits for Health
Chanting can be a source of centering, comfort, and connection. Thanks to the power of religions, songs, spiritual leaders, storytelling and written words we are able to access a wealth of information on chants and chanting to keep us happy, healthy and in harmony. With a small investment of time to read, research and review resources we can become tuned in to the benefits and power of chanting. After many years of listening to and practicing chanting it is long overdue for me to share this for the calming and health benefits. One of my favorite references is the book and CD, Chanting: Discovering Spirit in Song by Robert Gass. Deepak Chopra is another great reference and resource on the power of chanting, mantras, and meditation.
