Energy Medicine
What is Energy Medicine, you may ask? Energy medicine is centered around beliefs, concepts, and therapies that gained new traction in the ‘80s regarding natural health and healing. It has been defined as any form of directed energy, information, or intention to influence and interact with a being’s biological systems with the desire to realign, rebalance, rejuvenate, reset, and restore it to balance and health. It is one of five complementary and alternative medicine domains defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).
Energy Medicine can include
- Acupressure
- Acupuncture
- Applied Kinesiology
- Bio-feedback
- Biofield therapy
- Color therapy

- Infrared therapy
- Light therapy

- Massage therapy
- Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF)
- Red light therapy
- Reflexology Therapy
- Qi Gong, Chi Gong, and Tai Chi
- Reiki therapy
- Sound and Healing Frequency therapy
- Sunlight therapy
- Therapeutic Touch Therapy
- Vibration therapy (chanting, drumming, music, singing, and tuning forks)
Energy Meridians
What are energy meridians, you may ask? There are two main types of energy flowing through our bodies. The one everyone is most familiar with is the complete nervous system. This includes the brain, ganglia, neurons, receptor cells, and spinal cord that carry signals from all body parts to and from the brain. The nervous system’s role is to generate, modulate and transmit energy and information between the human body’s different parts.
The second and, to some degree, less understood aspect of our energy system is referred to as the energy meridians. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), energy meridians are often called subtle energy. The theory of subtle energy says it consists of very low intensity, is difficult to measure, and is believed to be a key process for promoting, propelling, and prolonging our life force. Subtle energy can be linked to non-physical (magnetic field), physical forms (magnet), or both simultaneously. Energy meridians are a collection of energy paths, pipelines, points, or power sources that allow energy to flow similarly to air currents, electrical wiring, or pipes carrying water. The energy wants to flow along open pathways and does so unless it is blocked, interrupted, redirected, or restricted.
Acupressure and acupuncture are energy medicine methods that help maintain, restore, and support the subtle energy flow through the energy meridians. Being in sunlight is an excellent way to absorb energy and recharge your meridians. Earthing, grounding, and walking barefoot on the beach, grass, or soil is an easy way to discharge unhealthy energy and recharge your body with the healthy energy and hertz of the earth. The Schuman Resonance is measured as 7.83 hertz and is believed to provide healing energy. This is the earth’s balanced energy field (vibration) and resonance (frequency) and is believed to help balance the body, brain, and spirit. The soothing sounds of music, nature, and running water produce therapeutic energy and sound that can help tame the monkey mind and wild thing in each of us.
