In the article Ten Toxic Threats to Human Health and Happiness the ninth threat is a common problem for many people as they experience too much stress and too little sleep.
Chronic stress by day and the lack of quality sleep at night leads to severe strain and stress on our physical body and mental state. This is a significant problem for children and adults alike as we become further addicted to unhealthy beverages and foods and excessively influenced by high technology.
Living in an almost constant state of stress affects our happiness, health and immune functions. Exposure to excess artificial lights, long computer use, homework, TV and staying up late have altered our natural sleep patterns and cause our biorhythms to become out of balance. The traditional wisdom of farmer’s advises us to wake before sun rise and settle down after sun set offers great merit for our long term health.
“Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise,” is a saying to be remembered.
Starting with Small Shifts
There are simple steps and specific strategies to insure your stress is down and your spirits are up. The question to ponder is: will you apply them to change your beliefs and behavior or will you stay stuck in your story rather than focus on the solution?
Too many people are addicted to the adrenaline rush from their busy days with caffeine stimulants and refined sugars as well as over stimulation from sights and sounds all day long and late into the night. Contrary to the excuses people make the excess stress and sleep deprivation is often because of a lack of focus, loss of life balance and unhealthy lifestyle choices.
Due to a lack of great nutrition education and an abundance of questionable food choices many people are consuming fast foods, highly processed foods and unhealthy drinks on a regular basis. Most people today are brainwashed by big advertising budgets and make poor choices while telling themselves a sad story about not having the money, skill or time to eat healthy.
When you make your happiness and health a higher priority than the heavily promoted distractions of cable TV, designer fashions, gambling, gourmet coffee mania, gossip magazines, lottery, pro sports, television, video games and much more you will see your quantity of stress go down and your quality of sleep increase.
By making small shifts in your thinking to begin focusing on what is really most important in your life and implementing steps to enhance your long term quality of life you will begin to notice beneficial improvements.
Unhealthy beverages, foods and stress are highly acidic and wreck havoc on the body, mind and emotional well being. Unnatural synthetic chemical fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, colorings, flavorings, preservatives, sweeteners, caffeine and refined sugars are very toxic and wreck havoc on the cells and organs of the body.
Additionally, electro-magnetic radiation, free radicals, micro waves and excess radioactive exposure are responsible for significant damage and destruction to our health and well being. Therefore it is essential to begin understanding and consuming more alkaline beverages and foods. This means drinking more pure water and eating more natural organic and unprocessed fresh fruits, green leafy plants, legumes, nuts, seeds, sea weeds, sprouts, vegetables and whole grains.
The body demands and deserves the highest quality of antioxidants, enzymes, minerals, phyto-nutrients, trace elements and vitamins in order to maintain and repair our complex yet delicate structures and systems. Most people are more concerned with taking care of their cars that may last for ten years than the body and mind that must last for 60 plus years.
Once you begin to fuel and maintain the body with high quality components it is then important to focus on providing the quality and quantity of sleep time to refresh, relax and repair at the deepest levels. Only when we give it what it needs during the day and at night will it respond with the energy, health and vitality we desire for our happiness and well being.
Finding a Role Model
It is essential to have great role models and read great books because it is easy for us to have a great vision and then lose our focus and get lost in the matrix and maze of modern life. We often forget we must spend less than we make and always act like a profitable business to survive and thrive.
We must focus on what our customers need (solve their pain) and want (provide them pleasure) rather than the deceptions and illusions of what we think we need and want. Being guilty of this many times in the past it is important to remember the golden rule which advises us to focus on constant improvement in order to give and receive long term value.
Anthony Robbins, Deepak Chopra and Mark Victor Hansen are great role models and have written great books to help us remember.
