Happy New Year! What are your New Year goals and resolutions! Have you noticed how each new year many people make New Year’s resolutions to be happier and healthier? They often commit to eating better, exercise more and reduce stress. It seems every year the good intentions and willpower are often driven by the overindulgence and stress of the holiday season. After another Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s bash, many people find themselves feeling sad, sick, stressed and subpar. Therefore it seemed like a great time to share a lifestyle strategy for a better lifestyle based on a seven-step system to sustainable success. If you want to be happy, healthy, and vibrant all year long it may be time to look closely at your behaviors, beliefs, and habits. This is the first of the Problems Reversed with Seven Solutions series.
After reviewing the patterns of many successful and unsuccessful people and some year-end “thinking time” inspired by Keith Cunningham, these simple seven steps became crystal clear. We are best able to achieve in life what we conceive and belief about our self and the world around us. Whether we create a lifestyle that leads to being sad, sick, stressed and subpar or one that is happy, healthy, holistic and in harmony it boils down to our consistent behaviors, beliefs, and habits. Here is a simple summary of seven steps to sustainable success for a happier and healthier New Year. Apply just one idea from each category each day and watch the amazing rapid results you can achieve. What have you got to lose and what might you gain in the New Year with implementing 7 steps to sustainable success?
7 Steps to Sustainable Success
Here is a 7 Step System to Sustainable Success. Imagine what would happen in your life when implementing at least one idea from each category each day.
Emotional and mental health is key to helping us stay resilient all year long. It is especially important because emotions are the driving force behind everything we do. Our emotional state provides the drive and energy that directs our behaviors, beliefs and habits and the quality of life we enjoy. Our emotional health determines how we will respond to challenges, people and stress. Some simple steps to help maintain mental health is a meditation and yoga practice. Breathing is a vital aspect of mental health and many people benefit from a regular focus on breath work and mindfulness. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a form of energy psychology is also very helpful because it helps to restore our emotional and mental mindset. Focusing on our blessings and gratitude rather than complaining and gossiping is a better way to invest our time. Remember our beliefs, behaviors, and habitats are vital to our sustainable success… so choose wisely.
Financial health is a major factor for most people to be happy and healthy. Unfortunately many have not been educated in financial success strategies at home or in school. Therefore it is imperative to make education for financial health a priority. A great place to start is to read the inspirational classics of Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill and The Richest Man In Babylon by George Clason. Once you have some basic information and inspiration it is time to begin a journey to find some financial coaches and role models. Three of my favorites are Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, MONEY Master the Game by Tony Robbins and The Millionaire Next Door by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley. Next, it is time to educate yourself on financial planning and strategies to avoid the many money traps and begin to build a solid financial foundation. Reading these books and applying their proven principles consistently could provide the majority of the basic building blocks for your financial freedom. The best way to start investing in your financial freedom is to save more and spend less.
Lifestyle health is a combination of behavior, beliefs, and habitat that helps promote and provide a supportive environment. This includes rituals and routines that guide you effectively and easily in the direction that helps you stay on a conscious course for personal development and self-growth. Finding a high caliber peer group to role model and support you is an important step. Being part of a quality mastermind group provides many direct and indirect benefits. Creating a mastery action plan, mind map and vision board are excellent ways to help prioritize and visualize your goals and outcomes. Reread Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill to really let the wisdom of his words guide you.
Nutritional health keeps us healthy, vibrant and strong. Consuming a wide selection of organic plant-based foods is important for accessing the antioxidants, enzymes, minerals, phytonutrients, trace elements and vitamins essential for our body and brain. Nutrient-dense organic whole foods are vital for our health and well being. Avoid heated processed oils and enjoy only high-quality natural fats and oils like coconut, extra virgin olive oil, hemp seeds, and sesame. Consume beneficial high quality organic fresh fruits that are local, low in sugar, and in season. Limit the number of high sugar fruits. Green plants are a key category to enjoy more. Eating a rainbow of vegetables is a delicious and nutritious way to consume a broad spectrum of potent prebiotics, phytonutrients, probiotics, and proteins. Root vegetables like beets, burdock, onions, parsnips, sweet potatoes, taro, turnips, and yucca are packed with fiber and nutrition. Eating seaweeds, sprouts and wild foods is a great way to enjoy great nutrition and variety. Consuming a variety of nuts and seeds is very beneficial for a healthy body and brain. Mushrooms offer delicious and nutritious benefits. When consuming animal products choose grass fed and organic and for fish find wild caught.
Physical health means making exercise and fitness a regular part of your routine. To stay active, healthy and fit it is important to focus on the foundational skills including agility, alignment, balance, conditioning, coordination, endurance, flexibility, posture, power, recovery, resiliency, stability, stamina, strength and tone. Some of the best methods, mindsets, and mobility experts include Egoscue, Eight Minutes, Four Minute Workout, High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Monkey Bar Gym, MovNat, Peak 8 Fitness, TRX System, and yoga. As you apply these exercise and fitness strategies you will soon discover the short and long-term benefits to keeping your body well maintained.
Relationship health is definitely an area where many people struggle because there are so many potential conflicts and variable factors outside of our control. Many of our behaviors, beliefs, and habits are the result of our family upbringing which programs our mental operating system and software. While parents may have the best intentions they often pass down the behaviors, beliefs, and habits they received from their parents and ancestors which may or may not be the most beneficial for your current and future success. Therefore it is essential for each person to set aside regular “thinking time” to review what is great in their life and what is not great yet. Then one can see what serves them and what does not in order to begin being the captain of your own destination and destiny versus being controlled and driven by the thinking of others. Some great reference material and role models can be found in books such as The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, The Dance of Intimacy by Harriet Lerner, Ph.D. and Learning to Love Yourself by Gay Hendricks, Ph.D.
Spiritual health may be hard to define for many, yet it may be one of the most important factors for long-term health and well being. Without addressing our spiritual being and core values we may become lost in space and wander the earth in search of who we are and what is the meaning and purpose of our life. Spiritual health is a very individual and personal thing that is not controlled or dominated by dogma and religion. Many wise people say we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Some great food for thought comes from great thinkers of our times like There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem by Wayne Dyer, Manifest Your Destiny by Wayne Dyer, How to Know God and also The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra.
Remember baby steps can lead to big success when you program your body and brain with proven steps for sustainable success.
