Welcome to the eighth blog on Problems Prevented with Simple Steps. Many people are regularly experiencing varying degrees of physical pain. When we are in pain we are less likely to exercise, which then reduces our activity and fitness level. The previous blog discussed the greater risk for falls associated with a loss of balance, flexibility, and stability due to not staying active and fit. Our alignment and posture have been identified as a major source of our pain and the key to eliminating it. As a holistic health coach, my role is to identify potential problems that could rob you or a family member of your quality of life. Coaching in simple steps helps anyone committed to getting out of pain and improving their lives. Now would be a great time to implement better health habits to help with alignment and posture which are vital for being pain-free and enjoying an active fun lifestyle.
Our passion and purpose are to find resources and share simple steps for rapid results. Poor alignment and posture eventually lead to pain and problems that rob us of our finances and quality of life. Below are some resources and role models to help.
Simple Steps to Alignment Adjustments
To improve our strength and structure includes focusing on our overall: alignment, balance, fitness, stability, and symmetry. Imagine how your life will improve after implementing these suggestions and reversing pain problems. Your alignment and posture determine the degree to which you can remain active, healthy and fit.
Alignment and posture are important for maintaining a healthy and pain-free lifestyle. When they begin to decline it is only a matter of time before the rest of your body begins to pay the painful price. We must train our body and brain to be aware of how we move, sit and stand. Alignment of our entire body plays a major role in how well we navigate the game of life. When we are routinely out of alignment we cause uneven strain and stress to our bone and joint structure which can lead to impairments. Proper alignment and posture are key for pain-free peak performance. Pete Egoscue has many great pain free posture therapy videos on Live Sonoma and a book on living Pain Free.
Beds, mattresses, and pillows play a major role in our alignment and posture. Many people use a mattress that does not provide adequate support for their body and spine which can lead to alignment issues and pain. Many people also use pillows that are too thick which can cause head, neck, shoulder and spine problems. There have been many new developments in the bed and pillow market which tempt people to sleep on beds and pillows that do not provide optimal support or use healthy materials. Dr. Mercola has some great information on how to improve our quality of sleep which impacts our alignment and health.
Fitness plays a vital role in our alignment and posture. When we exercise and maintain our fitness we are more easily able to maintain our alignment and posture. We must train our body and brain daily to stay solid, stable, strong and supple. We need a wide variety of aerobic, body weight and resistance training to maintain our body. Proper exercising, sitting, and standing awareness is vital for maintaining a stable and strong structure. Monkeybar Gym and MovNat natural movement fitness are two of my favorite resource for body weight exercises to help with better alignment, posture, and stability. Many gyms focus more on equipment exercise rather than building a better body naturally with bodyweight exercise and fitness training. As a result, many people do not develop the skills for optimal alignment, balance, and posture and end up hurt and in pain. The Pilates Method also offers simple steps to improve our fitness.
Mental awareness and mindfulness are key attributes when it comes to maintaining our alignment and posture. They affect how our body and brain functions. Many accidents and injuries occur because people are out of alignment and perform movements with poor mechanics and posture. By setting our intention on being aligned when we move, sit or stand we help tune our brain into a mental mindset and posture picture of vibrant health and well being. The Alexander Technique offers helpful information on the benefits of mental awareness of alignment and posture.
Nutrition is important for our alignment and posture in healthy foods become the fibers, foundations, and fuels for our cells. Without proper nutrition, our body and brain are less able to function at an optimal level. Without enough antioxidants, enzymes, fiber, minerals, trace elements, and vitamins our structure and support will begin to suffer. Pain is a signal from our dashboard telling us to pay more attention to our body in order to stay healthy and fit for a lifetime. Remember, our foods either build us up or break us down… so choose wisely. Good nutrition directly determines our support structure.
Sitting has been identified as a big risk factor for pain because we sit too much and it has become a health hazard. We spend so much time sitting in cars, chairs, and couches, they now play a big role in our alignment and posture. Many are designed for ease of manufacturing and looks rather than proper positioning and lumbar support. Cheap designs and materials can be a recipe for bad alignment which leads to pain and posture problems. Learning about ergonomic design and proper support can help avoid pain and posture problems. We encounter many different sitting surfaces so it is up to us t0 focus our attention on our alignment and posture. Learn fun ways to sit less and stand more. Great alignment and fitness ideas include: Bosu ball, Power Plate, rebounding, stand up desk and swiss ball.
Yoga is a great way to help nurture and support our alignment and posture. It has been shown to help improve our emotional, mental and physical state which has a direct bearing on our alignment, balance, posture, and stability. Yoga is beneficial in strengthening and toning our bones, joints, ligaments, and muscles to enhance our enjoyment of life and prevent pain. There are many types of yoga so try several until you find one the fits you.
