The Great NEWS Coach Health Hazard series is designed to help people be more conscious about common health hazards. There are many stress factors in our modern world and how we act and think about them will determine how we manage and reduce their impact on our lives. Most people do not realize they have a major role in attracting or repelling stress. We also play a big role in accepting or rejecting the behaviors and beliefs for effectively dealing with it. We might well be served to think like Leonardo da Vinci and ask quality questions to identify stress factors and mindfulness methods to effectively and efficiently deal with them.
Are Lifestyle Stresses Big Health Hazards?
There are many aspects to our everyday lifestyle that reflect healthy habits or health hazards. Being aware of the eight key lifestyle areas that make up our Wheel of Life is essential to identify healthy and unhealthy patterns. There are eight main lifestyle areas that determine our overall lifestyle patterns, possibilities, problems and progress. The eight areas in our Wheel of Life that determine our level of pain and pleasure in life include: Body, Mind, Spirit, Relationships, Education, Career, Finances and Abundance.
See previous posts for more details on the Wheel of Life and the important impact it has on our quality of life.
While some people may feel there are less or more of these categories that influence our life let us simply agree to agree for the sake of avoiding potential stress that the ancient Buddhist “wheel of life” with eight segments is a good foundation to build on. By investing a little energy and time today we will share some simple strategies to identify sources of stress and soften them just as quickly as they come to our awareness.
Do You Deserve to Be Happy?
We all deserve to enjoy a low stress and high quality life right? As obvious and simple as this may sound, many people do not believe this. Many people feel: they have been dealt a bad hand, their circumstances are unique, they are unlucky or they are undeserving of a low stress and high success lifestyle. As ironic as that may sound many people have mental blocks, hang-ups and negative thoughts regarding how to be happy, in harmony and healthy instead of staying sad, sick and stressed.
How do these profound words with wisdom regarding the philosophy and quality of life we experience resonate with you:
- “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated” – Confucius
- “Think and Grow Rich”- Napoleon Hill
- “You are what you eat” – Victor Lindlahr
- “Whether you think you can or think you can’t you’re right”. – Henry Ford
- “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle
- What we believe in our mind we manifest in our life, so choose wisely – Michael Morningstar.
There are several important factors to consider when deciding on where to focus our attention and energy. There is a significant difference between focusing on the problem or focusing on the solution. This is often referred to as the “Law of Cause and Effect”. Where we focus our attention determines our results.
Most people focus on the effects of their problems in life. Examples of major stress effects include: automobile accidents, bank overdraft charges, car problems, delinquent bills, family problems, frustration with lease payments, headaches, health care claims, health problems, insufficient funds in savings, lack of insurance coverage, job dissatisfaction, physical aches and pains, problems with children and spouse, sleep deprivation, stressed at work or too busy to exercise. When we continue to put our attention on the effect of problems we continue to experience more problems. When we put our attention and intention on resolving the cause of the problems we may begin to gain the foresight and insight to actually change our beliefs and behavior to resolve the cause and therefore change the effects.
While this can be easy to do it is also easy not to do. Often it appears easier to blame others and make excuses than to accept full responsibility and focus on changing our behavior to resolve the situation.
This post will help with ideas, information and insights to help us make better choices and decisions regarding different lifestyle choices to reduce the level of strain and stress in our life. When we are committed, determined and persistent about programming our mental operating systems and software to make intelligent choices we will attract more health while repelling more stress.
Choose Stress or Success in the Wheel of Life?
The little signs and things we ignore on a daily basis become the big problems we face in the future. When we ignore the little things they compound over time into big monsters. If we are staying up late to watch a movie or TV, the next day we may feel exhausted, sick and stressed while having a bad day at work. This could snowball into more problems at home with the family and drinking too much alcohol and watching more TV. This can start a vicious cycle of anger, frustration and meanness. Toxic emotions and habits lead to a toxic lifestyle.
As we look at each of the eight key areas in our Wheel of Life we can feel and see how they influence every thing else we experience in life.
Body – Our body is our temple and we must take great care of it each day. Breathing, eating and exercise are essential for optimal performance.
Mind – This is control center for our conscious and subconscious awareness and processing. Unhealthy beverages, food and thoughts will impair our thinking. Feed your mind happy and healthy thoughts
Spirit – Have you heard the saying “We are a spiritual being having a physical experience”? Nurturing your spirit is essential to avoiding and reducing physical stress.
Relationships – When we are experiencing problems in this area everything else in life seems to be off beat and out of balance. When we enhance and nurture our relationships everything else in life goes smoother. Love is all we all need.
Education – It is important to constantly be growing and learning in order to feel alive and fulfilled. When we stop growing we start dying.
Career – Living our gifts and passion in life is essential to feel happy and fulfilled. Doing things we do not love or that do not tap into our natural gifts is a sure recipe for disappointment and frustration.
Finances – When we are good stewards and wise about our lifestyle, resources, skills, values and wealth we attract and maintain financial abundance and freedom. When we waste energy, money, resources, time and wealth the universe sends those resources to others who appreciate and nourish them more than we do.
Abundance – Circulating, contributing, donating, giving, sharing and traveling are common ways to express our abundance. When we are angry, mean, selfish, self centered, thoughtless and uncaring we shut down our fountain of abundance and joy.
My goal for offering these valuable life lessons learned is to help people minimize the strain, stress and unhealthy habits in order to maximize the healthy ones. Poor lifestyle choices and decisions are contributing to many of the modern health and stress issues that are robbing people of the quality life they desire and deserve. We all know deep in our core there is a strong connection between our beliefs, behaviors and brain function that manifest the cause and effect system we call life. It is up to us to take action to protect your health by reducing our stress in every area of our life so it does not control or prevent us from being happy, healthy and in harmony.
Today we uncovered how living focused on the side effects in our life leads to downward spiraling strain and stress which are major health hazards. As we focus more on the cause side of life we find greater awareness, competence, guidance, higher thinking, insight, instinct, intuition and uplifting wisdom. Avoiding the negative effects is as simple as turning on and programming our GPS to find and focus on being at cause. This allows us to be consciously and unconsciously living the best moment of the best day for the best life ever.
